About this tool
With the QR code scanner you read QR codes right in your browser – from a photo, a screenshot or live with your camera. That is handy on a computer when a code is on a website or in a PDF, or when you want to see where a code leads before opening it on your phone.
The scanner recognizes what the code contains: links, WiFi credentials with password, contacts, emails, phone numbers, SMS and locations. The image is analysed only on your device and never uploaded. Create your own QR codes with the QR Code Generator, barcodes with the Barcode Generator.
How it works
- Drag an image with a QR code into the field, paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V or choose a file.
- Alternatively click “Use camera” and hold the code in front of the camera.
- Read the content – links, WiFi data or contacts are broken down clearly.
- Copy the content or open the link after checking the address.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image and the camera picture are only analysed in your browser. There is no server receiving images or content – you can verify that in your browser’s developer tools.
Why is no QR code found?
Common reasons are blur, reflections, a cut-off code or too little margin. Photograph the code as straight and large as possible or use a screenshot. The scanner also reads light codes on a dark background.
Can a QR code be dangerous?
Not the code itself, but its target: scammers put fake QR codes on parking meters or send them by mail (“quishing”). The scanner shows you the address before opening – check carefully that the domain is right.
Which codes are supported?
Classic QR codes of all sizes (version 1 to 40). Other 2D codes such as Data Matrix or Aztec as well as barcodes are not recognized.
