About this tool
When it is 6 pm in Berlin, it is noon in New York and already 1 am the next day in Tokyo. If you work with clients, colleagues or family in other countries, you constantly have to convert – and daylight saving time makes it harder because countries switch on different dates.
This time zone converter shows a time in several cities at once. It knows every time zone in the world and applies daylight saving time automatically for the chosen date. You see right away whether it is already the next day there, and the current offset from UTC. Your selection is stored in the link so you can share it for a meeting.
The calculation runs in your browser using your system’s time zone database. For Unix timestamps, use the Unix Timestamp Converter.
How it works
- Choose date and time or click “Now”.
- Enter the source time zone, e.g. Europe/Berlin – the list suggests matching zones.
- Add the cities you want to convert to and remove the ones you don’t need.
- Read the local times; “+1 day” shows when it is already tomorrow there.
Frequently asked questions
Why are time zones named after cities?
The IANA time zone database names zones after a major city (e.g. America/New_York) because abbreviations like EST or CET are ambiguous and daylight saving rules differ by country and change over time.
When do Europe and the US switch to daylight saving time?
The EU switches forward on the last Sunday in March and back on the last Sunday in October; the US on the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November. In the weeks between, the difference between Berlin and New York is only 5 instead of 6 hours – the converter accounts for this.
What is the difference between UTC and GMT?
UTC is Coordinated Universal Time and the technical reference for all time zones. GMT is the Greenwich time zone and in everyday use equals UTC+0. The UK, however, uses BST (UTC+1) in summer.
Are there time zones with half hours?
Yes, for example India (UTC+5:30), Newfoundland (UTC−3:30) or Nepal (UTC+5:45). The converter shows the exact offset from UTC.
