About this tool

Before you share a photo or screenshot, faces of bystanders, license plates, names, addresses, account numbers or credentials often need to be made unrecognizable. That protects other people’s privacy and helps with data protection, for example when you publish photos from events.

With this tool you mark as many areas as you like directly on the image and choose whether they are pixelated, blurred or blacked out. The strength adapts to the image size. Save the result as PNG, JPG or WebP.

The image is only edited in your browser and never uploaded. Because it is re-encoded when you save it, the file also no longer contains EXIF metadata such as the GPS location or camera model.

How it works

  1. Drop an image into the field or click to choose one.
  2. Drag with your mouse or finger over the spots you want to hide. Each area can be removed again with its ×.
  3. Choose the effect (pixelate, blur, black bar) and the strength if needed.
  4. Pick the format and click “Download”.

Frequently asked questions

Is pixelation safe enough?

For faces and license plates usually yes, if the blocks are large enough. For text, numbers and passwords a black bar is the safe choice: weakly pixelated or blurred text can sometimes be partly reconstructed, a black bar cannot.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The image is edited with your browser’s canvas and saved directly on your device. It never leaves your computer or phone.

Does the tool also remove metadata?

Yes, the image is re-encoded when saved, which drops EXIF data such as GPS coordinates. To only view metadata or remove it selectively without re-encoding the image, use the EXIF Viewer & Editor.

Can I crop or shrink the image afterwards?

Yes: use Crop & Rotate Image to crop and rotate, and the Image Converter & Compressor to resize and convert.

Why is the file larger than the original?

PNG is lossless and much larger than JPG for photos. For photos choose JPG or WebP at 80 to 90 % quality; for screenshots with text PNG remains the best choice.
