What does the drive to your holiday cost, and what does your daily commute cost per year? The fuel cost calculator multiplies distance, consumption and price and shows the costs in total, per person, per 100 km and per kilometer.
It works for petrol and diesel cars (liters per 100 km, euros per liter) just as well as for electric cars (kWh per 100 km, euros per kWh). With “Round trip” and the number of trips you can work out a commute for a whole year. If several people share the costs, you see each person’s share.
How it works
- Choose “Petrol / diesel” or “Electric”.
- Enter the one-way distance, the consumption and the price.
- Enable “Round trip” and, if needed, enter the number of trips and the people sharing.
- If you do not know your consumption, determine it under “Determine consumption” from a tank fill and use it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find out my actual consumption?
Fill up completely and note the odometer. At the next full fill-up, divide the liters by the kilometers driven and multiply by 100. “Determine consumption” does exactly that.
Is this the full cost per kilometer?
No, only the energy costs. Depreciation, insurance, vehicle tax, maintenance and tires come on top and usually make up the larger part of the total cost.
Which electricity price applies to an electric car?
At home the price from your electricity contract, on the road the price of the charging station. If you charge both ways, use an average. To calculate what a single appliance costs in electricity, use the Electricity Cost Calculator.
Can I calculate the German commuter allowance?
No, the tool only calculates the actual trip costs. The commuter allowance (Entfernungspauschale) is a tax value per kilometer of distance and independent of consumption. What is left of your salary after deductions is shown by the Gross to Net Salary Calculator (Germany).
