About this tool
An offer for viewing only, a draft, a file copy: with this tool you stamp a text such as “CONFIDENTIAL”, “DRAFT” or “SAMPLE” onto the pages of a PDF – diagonally across the page, horizontally or at your own angle, in any colour and semi-transparent so the content stays readable.
The size adapts to every page: you set how much of the available room the text takes, and it stays fully visible on landscape or rotated pages too. With the page selection you mark only certain pages, such as the cover.
Everything runs locally in your browser with pdf-lib; the preview is rendered with pdf.js – the PDF is not uploaded. To add page numbers, use Add Page Numbers to PDF; for a watermark on photos, use Add Watermark to Images.
How it works
- Drop the PDF onto the drop zone or click to choose it.
- Enter the text or pick a preset like “CONFIDENTIAL”, and set direction, size, opacity and colour.
- If needed, choose a position in the grid, the font and the pages that get the watermark. The preview shows each page with the result.
- Click “Save PDF” – the watermarked PDF is downloaded.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Preview and editing run entirely in your browser. The document never leaves your device.
Can the watermark be removed again?
The watermark is regular text on the page. Someone with a PDF editor can delete it with some effort. It marks a document reliably but is no copy protection. To make it stick harder, convert the stamped PDF to images with PDF to Image Converter.
What does “Behind the content” do?
The text then lies underneath the page content and covers no text. On scanned pages, however, the whole page is one opaque image – a watermark behind it cannot be seen there. For scans, leave the option off and use a low opacity.
Which characters can I use?
The tool uses the PDF standard fonts Helvetica, Times and Courier. They contain Latin letters with umlauts and accents, digits, € and common punctuation, but no Cyrillic letters or emoji, for example. The text is a single line; line breaks become spaces.
Can I use a logo as a watermark?
This tool places text. For an image on a PDF page, use Sign PDF: there you can place any image, such as a logo, freely on the pages.
